The State of the Art Market, Highlights of My Asawa Walking Tour & And A Personal Update... I'm Amelia, Founding Partner at Legacy Art Partners, where I help collectors navigate every stage of their art journey—from strategic sales and acquisitions to market valuation and analysis. With over a decade in the art world, including leadership roles at Bonhams and Christie’s, I'm passionate about art both as a personal pursuit and an alternative asset class. The State of The Art Market Overall the May auction season left the art world cautiously optimistic as we head into the summer. The Frieze and TEFAF Fairs reported strong sale results and the Day Sales at the auction houses showed strong sell-through rates. The overall estimate ranges for the sales, compared to the total sale value, was where the most disappointment was found. Essentially if a few very high value works fail to find a buyer these numbers can make an otherwise strong sale result appear lackluster. The press will always focus on a $70M Giacometti failing to sell as opposed to talking about the strength of the market for works under $500,000, but the smaller sales in aggregate divinate the tea leaves for the health of the overall art market. Highlights of Asawa Walking Tour Earlier this month, I had the joy of leading a walking tour through San Francisco exploring the public works of Ruth Asawa and visiting Jessica Silverman and ICA galleries (thanks for the private tours Jessica and Ali Gass!). We finished the tour with lunch at Kin Khao. Personal Update...Moving to New York! After over six years in the Bay Area, I am moving back to my beloved Carroll Gardens in Brooklyn. It will be a new chapter in the city (with kids this time!) but with the same wonderful bodega guy.
